About Richard Crookes Construction

A family business with humble beginnings since 1976, Richard Crookes Constructions (RCC) is one of Australia’s leading contractors for major projects across all sectors of the NSW, QLD and ACT economies. With over 700 staff on board managing 40 live projects, and a long history of repeat business (just over 70%) across both government and private sectors, RCC is poised for continued success for the next generation of construction professionals.

Background

When RCC were building high end luxury apartments at Tonkin Street, in Cronulla, that required a restricted keying system to meet the demands of the high coastal weather conditions such as salt water and windy rains, the apartment owners who were after a high security keying system to match their new high end purchase, and the building manager to have a simple keying system for common use areas, they turned to EVVA 4KS and Websters Locksmiths to provide such a solution.

Implementation

The EVVA 4KS maximum security master key system harnesses 130 billion key combinations to provide maximum intrusion resistance and flexibility. With a long-life patent protection until 2035, a very stringent and limited EVVA dealer network, Australian compliant standards, and Australian Government tested and approved (SCEC approved inc SL3 rated products), this system ticked all the security and keying matrix boxes for RCC.

“We have worked with multiple keying systems in the past, but 4KS completely blew us away. The key design which allows you to insert it in the cylinder both ways, the springless cylinder which we recommend for coastal areas to stop clogs in the cylinder, and the security approvals and design flexibility won us over,” says Kain Sissons, Senior Project Engineer, Richard Crookes Constructions.

Unlike most master key systems that rely on spring pressure in the cylinder, the 4KS locking pins (sliders) inside the cylinder are actively moved by the tracks in the key into alignment before the cylinder will open. When you insert your key to open, a total of 12 springless, solid carbide sliders are brought into a specific position via positive control of the six key curves and scanned by two control bars. The active slider placement and distinctive springless design also makes the 4KS system highly suitable for sandy, dirty and salty environments, and as Kain mentions above, this was a key factor chosen for Tonkin St, Cronulla.

“Andrew Webster and his team at Websters Locksmiths were fantastic to work with. From the design of the system to the implementation and final delivery, we felt their work ethos blended with ours, as they delivered on time and on budget,” concludes Kain.
